Active Network Receives $65 Million for a Sports Network

The Active Network provides technology solutions and marketing access to community organizations, and is a leading online community for active lifestyles.
I am writing about Active Networks as they have three main areas of focus, the first being their online communities. They operate Active.com, eteamz.com and ActiveGolf.com.
They provide full service marketing and promotions agency as their second area of focus and lastly they provide software tools facilitate participation and help manage online registrations, reservations, payments, donations and fundraising, memberships, data, customer service and website content.
It is interesting that the Active.com community is a business by itself, an online community, however the Active Network is so much more. While they have 3 online communities they also have the various services listed above. It is interesting to think about whether most online communities will end up as assets in a larger organization and a tool for customer acquisition as opposed to stand alone entities.
