Ooyala Received $8.5 Million for Video Advertising and Analytics

We first reported Ooyala winning a $100,000 Amazon contest, and now Ooyala raised their Series A of $8.5 Million from Sierra Ventures.

What does Ooyala do?

Ooyala is a video company delivering a high-quality interactive video experience with monetization and analytics tools for video publishers and advertisers.

VCU says:

According to Amazon, who put on the contest for those using their AWS services, over 900 business plan entries were submitted by bevelopers building their products and services using the AWS Platform.

Ooyala won the challenge, three ex-Google employees founded the company. In their own words here is what they have developed – “we developed a platform that gives content owners control — marketers accountable video advertising — and viewers high quality interactive video with non-intrusive advertising. This platform is built on Ooyala’s patent-pending delivery system, one that is able to deliver up to HD-quality video over the Web at a fraction of the cost. Our ad system uses elements of computer vision and machine learning to deliver a targeted advertising experience.

Their platform is named Backlot.
