Would finalizing part II of your A round make you smile?

Mobidia has raised Cdn$3.75 Million, which they state is also part of their Series A round that was raised at an earlier date, bringing the total to Cdn $7 Million.

What is Mobidia?

Mobidia develops mobile technologies that drive increased usage of multimedia content by consumers. Mobidia states that these technologies allow carriers to realize improved customer satisfaction, reduced churn, and increased revenues from differentiated services. To date they have filed 7 patents on their technology.

Who Invested?

BDC Venture Capital with the participation of current investors British Columbia Discovery Fund and B.C. Advantage Funds.

What will they use this funding for?

Gary Tauss, president and CEO of Mobidia states that “This latest round of funding will enable Mobidia to further develop its product set and focus its efforts on sales and marketing”.

VCU says:

Their technology is named .wave.

Mobidia’s .wave multimedia services allow carriers to offer services such as the sharing of user-generated content and mobile video. What appears to be unique is the ability of the .wave multimedia service to enable carriers to manage usage so they can deliver their paid services first, ahead of unpaid services.

Not only does the solution allow the carrier to give preference to paid verse unpaid traffic, but they can also monitor and throttle the bandwidth usage. They can determine which application receives the right level of service and also keep those that use the most bandwidth from monopolizing the network.

The end result of their technology is to improve the end users multimedia service, Mobidia makes it faster and easier for subscribers to share user-generated content such as photos, facilitates social networking, and enables the best use of multi-service phones.
