Why are the four co-founders smiling?
OkCupid received $6 Million in series A funding.
What is OkCupid?
A dating site launched in 2004. It is a free online dating site in the United States, and as of this writing January 15th, 2007 their press release states more than two million monthly unique users and 500,000 active users.
It is not public knowledge who invested, apparently angel investors.
What will they use this funding for?
From a press release they stated the funding “…will be used for continued development of new features for OkCupid’s free online dating services, and expansion of its service into key geographical markets worldwide.”
OkCupid utilizes their own system to match members after taking personality tests. They claim more than 100,000 new member accounts are created every month. Their growth could be fueled by the fact that they are free, and they would state that it is also due to their community experience and matching.
Here is an interesting statistic, their 500,000 active users have answered over 150,000,000 questions on what matters most to them in relationships. It is this data that is used to match users.
