weplay Received $4.4 Million for a Youth Sports Site

weplay received $4.4 Million in Series A funding from Pequot Ventures and the following individuals: Derek Jeter, LeBron James, Peyton Manning, and Ron Conway.

What does weplay do?

weplay provides a youth sports community.

VCU says:

weplay was founded and incubated by CAA Sports and Major League Baseball Advanced Media (MLBAM). From the weplay press release “[The goal] is to create a safe environment that connects, enables, and enhances the youth sports experience by serving the needs of parents, coaches and children, ages 6-16. The site will be supported by sponsorships and complementary advertisements.”

What is interesting is that parents can keep an eye on what their children are doing within this community. Children can interact with their friends, team mates, coaches, and even pro athletes. There a public and private features so you may create private groups and decide what is or is not made public.
