IceBreaker Raises $7.2 Million for Mobile Social Networking
June 6, 2007

IceBreaker received $7.2 Million for a mobile social networking platform, funding provided by Frazier Technology Ventures and Lightspeed Venture Partners.

What does IceBreaker do?

IceBreaker provides a mobile social networking application to allow users to chat and meet real people in their area using their cell phone.

VCU says:

IceBreaker’s platform, or technology, is named Crush or Flush. Once an individual joins they create picture profiles with tags and personal descriptions. Others can view this information, including their interests and search/browser based on gender, age, location as well as interest.

Once you find someone you can ‘crush’ them or if you are not interested you may ‘flush’ them, hence the name ‘crush or flush’. If you like someone and have ‘crushed’ them, and they have accepted you, a mutual ‘crush’, then they put you in contact with one another. The contact can begin as anonymous text messages.

In its first four months, the service has attracted 150,000 registered users and more than 20 million page views per month.
