The Filter Raises $5 Million for Music Recommendation Service
August 23, 2007

The Filter (their parent company) received $5 Million from Peter Gabriel and Eden Ventures.

What does The Filter do?

The Filter is a music recommendation service based off of your play lists.

VCU says:

The Filter summarizes their service well in a quote from their site “Imagine a world where someone could recommend you a new band, track or album …and hit the nail on the head every time, like having your own personal assistant that looked after all of your music needs. An assistant that learnt and developed as your taste and moods changed… .

The Filter has a free download that generates the recommendations based on the music you have, and creates playlists. Their software works on both Mac and Windows machines, iPods and Nokia phones

As of the writing of this article we have read they have over 150,000 active users.

See the The Filter website.
