Kyte.tv Raises $2.25 Million so You Can Create Your Own TV Channel
May 18, 2007
Kyte.tv raised $2.25 Million from Swisscom AG and Holtzbrinck Ventures, two European investors. Kyte.tv previously rasised funding from Atomico, Draper Fisher Jurveston, Draper Richards, and individual investor Ron Conway. The holding company is decentral.tv which owns and operates kyte.tv.
What does Kyte.tv do?
Kyte.tv allows you to create your own interactive channel and share it with the world.
The next logical step from individuals posting their lives and pictures on MySpace, and their videos on YouTube was creating an always on personal channel.
You can post “kyte” a “show” to your own channel, even use your mobile phone to post. You can post pictures and video (formats: FLV, MOV, AVI, MPEG, MPEG-4, 3GP). Whatever you post continues to rotate until you post again.
There is a component of interactivity, as you may also provide others with the ability to post and add content to your channel. Viewers may also vote and chat live with other viewers.
The channel you create can be embedded on sites such as MySpace for the world to see, they call it embedding a TV. Just copy and paste the code with the channel you want and you are done.
An interesting mobile feature is what they call a “LifeStream” show for creating shows on your mobile device. A “show” is what you post to your “Channel” and the “Channel” can be shown on your “TV” that is embeddable on any site. You can post LifeStream in real-time.
